CLARO WALNUT
Often called the Northern California walnut, it is found in the valleys of central California and along the Northern California Coast Range from San Francisco into Southern Oregon. These trees can grow to 60 feet and trunks commonly reach six feet. The crown can be wider than the height of the tree. This variety of walnut is cultivated by California native plant nurseries for a variety of uses. The wood is highly figured with a rich brown color and dramatic grain patterns. Its most striking use is for live-edged slabs for natural table tops showing swirling iridescent patterns.
