Black Walnut – Very dark heartwood with lighter sapwood. It is a favorite among furniture makers and referred to as the aristocrat of hardwoods with highly figured grades of Walnut being pricey, but worth it. Slabs are priced in the same manner as art, based on several characteristics. This tree under ideal conditions may grow to 130 feet. Used for furniture; counters and stairs. The dust from Walnut can be very irritating so masking is important. The largest Walnut forest in the world is located within the Chatkal mountain range of western Kyrgyzstan.
